FONTANARIO DE PEGOES, PALMELA - 2019
Santo Isidro de Pegoes is one of the most forward thinking co-operatives in Portugal and their chief winemaker, Jaime Quendera, skillfully blends the warm native varities such as Castelao and Tourgia Nacional with international grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon to produce wines bursting with flavour. Founded in 1958 in the small village of Pegoes this modern winery has access to a total of 1,100 hectares owned by 140 winegrowers.
After an extended maceration the grapes undergo fermentation in stainless steel tanks followed by 8 months ageing in American and French oak barrels and 6 months in bottle before release.
A well structured wine with a soft and fruity mouthfeel, it has aromas of dry fruits and spices with hints of vanilla. A wine to enjoy with red meats, hearty pasta dishes or mature cheeses.
Castelao 80%, Touriga Nacional 10%, Cabernet Sauvignon 10%
