DR LOOSEN BERNKASTELER LAY RIESLING KABINETT 2018
Grape 100% Riesling Description The Mosel's steep, south facing slopes and the proximity to the river create a perfect microclimate for Riesling. The aspect of the slopes gives vines the ideal exposure to the sun for excellent ripeness with the river reflecting sunlight and holding heat to ripen the fruit and protect the vines from freezing. Cool nights, even in the middle of summer, maintain the racy acidity in the grapes that is essential for clean, crisp Riesling. Stony slate soil and numerous rocky outcroppings also hold the heat of the day and ensure full ripeness. Thin topsoil forces the vines to dig deep for nutrients producing intensely minerally and vibrant wines. The Lay vineyard is just outside the village of Bernkastel and has somewhat gentler slope and richer slate soil than the estate's other vineyards, producing a dense, creamy-textured Kabinett.
